The Chairman of BUA Group, Alhaji (Dr) Abdulsamad Rabiu is to be honored at this year’s CSR Reporters Philanthropic award alongside a score of other individuals and corporate organizations that will be honored for their exemplary corporate social responsibility activities in a year that has been challenging to the global community.

He will be formally honored at the 2020 edition of CSR Reporters Philanthropic Awards Ceremony scheduled for November 21, at the prestigious Sheraton Lagos Hotels, Ikeja. CSR REPORTERS Philanthropic awards, according to the organizers, is conceived as a platform to appreciate various organizations that had risen to the humanitarian challenges in the Nigerian society and have through giving, added value to the quality of human life in the country.

The award is organized by CSR Reporters, an online and monthly magazine that analyses, reviews and reports social responsibility activities of organizations and well-meaning individuals across Africa.  According to Eche Munonye, Publisher and Editor-In-Chief of the publication: “The purpose of CSR Reporters Philanthropic Award is to recognize, appreciate and celebrate those who were and are still in the forefront of the laudable culture of giving back to the society in the year under review and its  objective is to encourage and motivate others to join in.”  Speaking on the emergence of the recipients on the award roll call, he asserted: “There are several organizations that contributed to humanitarian causes this year, but some were exceptional in their handling of such interventions.

On the emergence of BUA Group Chairman as the Philanthropist Of The Year, he said: “Alhaji (Dr.) Abdulsamad Rabiu stands out among the lot in not just his private giving across Nigeria, but also in how he has motivated his team to work round the clock to bring succor to people across communities, particularly during COVID-19 lockdown. His personal philanthropy and his company’s CSR Interventions have been cutting-edge. This is why he is being recognized and celebrated as the Philanthropic Champion of 2020.” Eche further outlined the procedure used in picking the eventual recipients. “First, we relied on our (CSR Reporters) balance and diligent reports and reviews. We are also aided by the report of research agencies that evaluated Corporate Social Responsibility investments of organizations across different sectors. Lastly, we took entries from journalists who cover CSR and humanitarian interventions from different media agencies.”

Other individual awardees are: Dr. Noah Dallaji, Pastor Tony Rapu, Funmi Ogbue, Dr. Ayo Aranmolate, Cornel Undofia and Manuchimso Lemmy and his Abali Youth Council. Corporate awardees in different categories include UBA Foundation, FirstBank, Interswitch Group and InnerCity Mission. Other awardees are Leadway Assurance, Rites Foods, Ikeja Electricity, Natnudo Foods, Jobberman, FCMB, Revolution Plus Properties. Also to be recognized on the awards night are RainOil Ltd, JosepDam, NIMASA, Recare, and Accion Microfinance.

The purpose of the awards, he reiterated, is “to simply say THANK YOU to the organizations and well-meaning individuals among us who have been committing their time and resources to improving life and living.”

While observing that “organizations are not yet seeing CSR as part and parcel of their business processes, Eche is, however, optimistic that “the outlook is improving.” On the publication’s objectives for instituting CSR REPORTERS Philanthropic awards, he affirmed: “When you appreciate someone who has done well, the person or corporate entity is encouraged to do more. We’re also trying to use this platform to get others to join in the movement of charitable giving.”

To corporate organizations, the CSR Reporters publisher further admonished: “Corporate Social Responsibility can improve your good standing with your host communities by up to 75% so it is actually in your interest to engage in philanthropic activities.” According to him, CSR REPORTERS Philanthropic award 2020 promises to be an evening of celebration and glamour and will feature comedy, music and dance.
