Prof Vincent Iyawe, a former Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Benin will lead discussions as critical stakeholders deliberate on maternal and child health issues at this year’sAnnual LAPO Development Forum.
The renowned medical professor will speak on the theme, “Improving Access to Quality Maternal and Child Health Care In Rural Communities: Issues and Perspectives,” at the event scheduled to hold on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, via zoom webinar from 10:00.
The Forum which shall be chaired by Hon. Justice Samson Uwaifo (CON), a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, is expected to proffer practical solutions to the challenges inhibiting primary healthcare in Nigeria. It shall advocate for workable policies and strategies to ensure access toquality health care in rural communities, contribute to lowering child and maternal mortality, and improve basic health care for all.
The Coordinator, James-Wisdom Abhulimen said critical stakeholders including government functionaries and agencies, policymakers, political and religious leaders, the academia, Civil Society Organizations, Professional Bodies, Development Partners and health practitioners are expected to participate at the Forum.
Initiated in 1994, the Annual LAPO Development Forum has become a rallying point for discussions and crafting of workable solutions to identified issues in poverty and development in Nigeria. Gen. Yakubu Gowon and Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR are among prominent personalities who have delivered key papers at the Forum in the past.
