COVID-19: PTF To Support LGA’s With High Burden

The Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, is preparing to take precision measures within the high burden local government areas in the country.

Chairman of the taskforce and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, disclosed this on Thursday during the ongoing briefing of the taskforce in Abuja.

The PTF had in one of its daily briefings revealed that it had identified some local governments with high burden of the disease.

Mustapha, who did not mention the local governments, said the strategies would be unfolded in the coming weeks.

“PTF has advanced in its preparation for taking precision measures within the high burden local government areas identified in our previous briefings. The strategy will be unfolded in due course,” he said.

He also said the PTF was “emphasizing risks communication meeting engagement in a sustainable manner. We therefore urged state governments to reach out to traditional, religious and community leaders for dialogue and education. The major message will be ownership, behavioral change and taking responsibility.”

The PTF, according to him, also urged Nigerians to celebrate June 12 in solemn and reflective manner in view of COVID-19.

“The best celebration we bequeath to ourselves is to strengthen our individual and collective resolve to abide by the guidelines to protect ourselves, our friends, our loved ones and the country at large.

“We must ensure that our goal is to stay alive and remain COVID free.”

The SGF also gave an update on compliance.

“PTF continues to monitor activities and compliance with the guidelines nationwide. Consultations will continue and tonight I will be holding another round of video conferencing with a team of governance appointed by the National Economic Council to interface with the PTF.

“PTF will reemphasize its appeal to governments at the sub national level as well as and our security agencies to enforce the guidelines and protocols firmly. PTF will also be meeting with the heads of these agencies to further fine-tune strategies to ensure compliance.

“PTF met with reps ad-hoc committee on COVID-19. We received assurances that the legislative support required will be given to help us overcome the pandemic.

“Buhari held a video conferencing meeting with president of ECOWAS in his capacity as ECOWAS champion for the control of COVID-19. Matters partaining to regional response to the pandemic were discussed. Such matters include our common risk at the sub region in need for our collaboration response, our interdependence and Nigeria’s role within our large population and the position of Mr President as ECOWAS champion.

“We are also enphasizing risks communication meeting engagement in a sustainable manner. We therefore urge state governments to reach out to traditional, religious and community leaders for dialogue and education. The major message will be ownership, behavioral change and taking responsibility.”
