The election into various positions of International Market Association of Electronics (IMAE) section of Alaba International Market took place last week, 2018.
It was an opportunity for all the people within the electronics section to elect those who will pilot the affairs of the vibrant association for the next four years.
Speaking to Skybirdews Group on Monday , after the inauguration of the newly elected Executive Officers, the newly elected – Chairman , Evangelist Paulinus Ugochukwu said a new Dawn has come to Alaba International Market, adding that the era of docility and mediocrity was gone forever.
“We shall restore the lost glory of the market by re-ordering and creating a better image and public relation for the market,” he said.
Evangelist Ugochukwu , who is also the Managing Director of Sound Prince (SP) International Company Limited, said that his administration goals would be build on Justice, Honesty, Hard-work, Transparency and Accountability and all members would be carried along on its programmes and activities.
Speaking on his set goals, the Executive Chairman said his priority would be to work in tandem with his co-elected officers, the Executive Council, the Council of Sectional heads (Amalgamated), the founding Fathers, the past Chairman, the Ojo Local Government, the Nigeria Law enforcement agencies and all –meaning members of the Association , to bring more improvement on the infrastructural development in the market.
“We shall do everything possible to eliminate street trading and decongest traffic in and out of the market. We shall reorganize all the committee structures and narratives for effective services to all customers and members of the market . We shall also reorganize the security and task force architecture for proficiency and more effectiveness.,” he stated.
“We shall also create a sickbay for first aid services , fire and emergency health challenges and regular checks up. The sanitary condition shall be improved upon.”
The new boss called on both Federal and State government to intervene in the situation of the market in terms of infrastructural development.
He lamented that in spite of the revenues the government generates from the market, the traders are yet to feel government’s impact.
He said that, the roads leading to the market are sorry sight which has made them lost most of their customers as most of the opted to source their goods elsewhere instead of get trapped on the terrible traffic on Badagry Expressway and other connecting roads to the market.
“Apart from that, to bring in our goods from the port to Alaba is now problematic as most truck drivers don’t want to ply the road and those that will agree we charge us as high as N600,000 to N700,000 just to bring in goods from Apapa to this market”, he said.
The new President, therefore, called on the government to find a solution to Badagry Expressway traffic gridlock and also provide the market with infrastructure like uninterrupted power supply, good pipe borne water amongst others.
He thanked all that voted him into the office and promised to work assiduously to bring more and improved infrastructure in the market.
Ugochukwu hinted that his administration would stop the unnecessarily extortion and touting going on in Alaba.
Also speaking at the event, the former Chairman, IMA, Electronic Section, Uchenna Nnadozie charged the new executives on hard work even as he tasked members of the association to give the new excos all the support as he enjoyed.
He also called for government involvement on the affairs of traders emphasizing that traders need to be involve in formulation of policies that affects them as their involvement would give better result.
A Member of the Board of Trustee, Owelle James Okwudili, charged the newly elected executive to continued where the last administration stopped, as leadership is about continue thing.
He was happy with the conductor of the election, promised to give supporting hand to the new administration, whenever he is needed.
The 1st Vice Chairman, IMA, Electronic Section, Mr. Camilius Amajuoyi said that he will work with Executive Chairman and others to see successes is achieved.
Amajuoyi, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Joy-Femac, Communication Nig. Limited, called on the members to join hands with the new executive in making the Alaba International Market first class electronics market not only in Africa but the whole world.
The new Public Relations Officer, IMA, Electronic Section, Mr. Mmaduabuchi Alaowerri Adiukwu also said his department would concentrate on image building of the market to return it to its lost glory.
“Alaba use to be a market to reckon with but today, most people see it as a market where substandard products are sold and this is very bad assumption on the market because most of the brands (Genesis, Polystar etc) they go outside to buy emanates from Alaba. So, we need to change that thinking”, he explained.
